We're building forward, together.

The Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre (RDRHC) Redevelopment Project (Project) is a $1.8-billion investment that will upgrade services throughout the hospital and add significant capacity.

There are two major components of this Project:

  1. construction of a new patient tower, and renovations and upgrades throughout the existing building
  2. construction of an ambulatory building (across 39th Street from the parkade)

Highlights of the Project and its components include:

  • the addition of 200 new beds in the patient tower.
  • six new operating rooms.
  • two cardiac catheterization labs.
  • an expanded Medical Device Reprocessing Department.
  • outpatient services, addiction and mental health, renal dialysis and underground parking at the ambulatory building

As the project progresses, programs, services and their equipment will be relocated within the site to accommodate construction and renovations.

The new patient tower and the ambulatory building will be completed before the finalization of the total redevelopment project, which is expected to be completed and fully commissioned by 2031.

We will be engaging you over the lifetime of this project, so please visit often or register to receive updates to your email.

  • Share I saw that the Mayor announced that the cardiac catheterization lab is coming 5 years ahead of schedule, but I can't seem to find any official announcement for it or anything that says where it will be built or any official timeline for it. Can anyone provide any more detail on this or direct me to where I can learn more. Hello,

Together with the Red Deer Regional Health Foundation, Alberta Health Services (AHS) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that will see the development of an interim cardiac catheterization lab at RDRHC ahead of the two permanent labs that will be developed as part of the larger Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre Redevelopment Project led by the Government of Alberta.

The Foundation's announcement from October 18 can be viewed in full here: RDRHF Announces Cath Lab Opening 5 Years Ahead of Schedule (rdrhfoundation.com).

This interim cardiac cath lab will be constructed in retrofitted space on the main floor of the hospital. Preliminary design plans are in place and the project is expected to be completed within 24-30 months. Through the MOU, the Foundation will be providing the financial support for the essential architectural, mechanical, and electrical upgrades necessary to retrofit the existing space.

Once the two permanent cardiac cath labs are completed through the hospital Redevelopment Project, the interim cardiac cath lab will be transformed into a Vascular and Neurology lab.
