Thai Nguyen, Advanced Care Paramedic, Public Safety Unit Paramedic: As a Public Safety Unit Paramedic, I am honoured to be part of a team that makes a difference by safeguarding individuals’ and groups’ freedom to safely express, celebrate, and congregate in open settings. Public Safety Unit Paramedics operate in austere environments, providing prehospital medical care where traditional EMS treatment and transport methods are challenging due to crowds and geographical barriers. A memorable moment was providing medical EMS standby during the Edmonton Oilers’ 2024 playoff run. We worked closely with allied police members to ensure the safety of everyone participating in the festivities. Whether it’s extreme weather or crowded streets, Public Safety Unit Paramedics are ready to respond to the call.
