Online Public Health Inspection Reports

Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share on Linkedin Email this link

In Spring 2023, Albertans will be able to search for and view public health inspection reports for pools, personal services, and childcare facilities here. Albertans have had online access to food facility inspection reports since 2008.

By enhancing online access to a broader range of public health inspection reports, this initiative will help Albertans make additional informed choices for themselves and their families. This information has always been available through AHS' request for information process; the change to online posting further improves accessibility.

The timeline for expanding our disclosure is as follows:

  • Pool facility inspections: March 1, 2023 - launched
  • Personal services facility inspections: April 3, 2023
  • Childcare facility inspections: May 1, 2023

Hi there. Do you have a sample of the inspection report for daycare facilities?

Virginia Sumalinog asked 8 days ago

    Thank you for your question.

Here is a sample inspection report for a routine inspection with three violations.

Here is a sample inspection report with the information provided about the facility (name and address) for a reinspection with no violations.

You can also visit ahs.ca/inspections to view food and pool inspection reports. They use the same format that will be used for childcare inspection reports.

I had done an inspection last year. when do I need to do it again for this year? My business name is 3T Permanent Makeup Tattoo.

3T Permanent Makeup Tattoo asked 11 days ago

Thank you for your question. You do not need to contact us to book an inspection, your inspector will make an unannounced visit to your business when it is due for an inspection. A high-risk personal service, like makeup tattooing, is targeted to be inspected yearly.

Hi...can a customer or employee bring their dog or into a restaurant...thanks..in Alberta

    L J U M asked 16 days ago

Hi there and thank you for your question.

    1. Service animals are permitted in a restaurant as per the regulation:
      1. "An operator must permit a service animal to enter or remain in a commercial food establishment to the extent that the law gives service animal handlers rights with respect to that food establishment."
    2. Dogs that are not service animals are permitted only on the patio/outdoor area of a restaurant and are not allowed inside a restaurant.

If this response doesn't answer your question, I would recommend connecting with your health inspector to discuss your particular situation. Your health inspector can be contacted at 1-833-476-4743 or through our online form.

Here is the section of the Food Regulation for reference:

    Live animals

32(1)  In this section, “patio” means an outdoor area of a commercial food establishment intended for the consumption of food.

    (2)  Subject to subsections (3), (4) and (5), a live animal must not be permitted to enter or remain in a commercial food establishment.

    (3)  An operator must permit a service animal to enter or remain in a commercial food establishment to the extent that the law gives service animal handlers rights with respect to that food establishment.

    (4)  An operator may permit a dog to enter or remain on a patio if

      (a)    the operator ensures that the dog accesses the patio without entering an interior food handling area, and

      (b)    a person has physical control of the dog using a leash, carrier or other restraint at all times.

    (5)  An executive officer may authorize the presence of a live animal other than those referred to in subsections (3) or (4) in a commercial food establishment.

Is the health inspector required what asked what the complaint is that resulted in an inspection. Not requesting who filed complaint, just want to know what the complaint was.

Stiles asked about 2 months ago

    Thank you for your question.

Many public health inspections are not initiated by a complaint. In cases where the inspection is initiated by a complaint, the public health inspector, although not required, will often provide some information on the nature of the complaint. There are situations; however, that providing complaint information may reveal the identity of the complainant or impact the investigation. In these cases, no complaint information is provided.

When do we get notified of I elections happening and will we be notified of results

Kaj asked about 2 months ago

    Hi Kaj,

Most inspections are unannounced so you won't be notified about when we are coming. Inspection reports are emailed to the manager and/or owner after the inspection is completed.

Public health inspectors will often go through inspection findings with the manager on-site during the inspection.

I hope that answers your question. If you have any other questions, please feel free to post them here.
