Over the next 15 years, the population in Edmonton is expected to increase by 23%, and 18% of the population is expected to be 65 years and older. Edmonton Zone is comprised of nine subzones which are diverse in demographics, socioeconomic status, land mass and proximity to health and support services.

Edmonton Zone Healthcare Planning conducted in 2021 and 2022 highlighted differences in need across subzones and identified priority areas for further planning.

Alberta Health Services (AHS) has therefore initiated clinical service planning for three subzones (Westview, Strathcona County including Sherwood Park, and Edmonton Northeast) in the Edmonton Zone. The clinical service planning process will help us identify the health needs of the population in these areas, and the services and resources required to meet those needs. The plan will focus on ways to deliver sustainable, quality services into the future.

Several staff and physician engagement sessions as well as public engagement sessions were held between October and December 2023. The ideas and suggestions that were shared on future healthcare needs in these subzones will be reviewed and considered for incorporation into the clinical service planning reports for each of the three subzones.

We encourage you to continue to check back on this page to receive updates on the projects progress.
