During the facilitated session, Council members were asked to provide their feedback and experience on the Emergency Department patient journey.
Council members also took a moment to acknowledge the survivors of the Residential School System and those who were lost, as well as National Indigenous Peoples Day 2021.

Council was also provided with an update on the New Edmonton Hospital PFAC’s Project Design objectives by members of the consultant team, as well as a general project update.

An update on the New Edmonton Hospital Project was then provided, which included information on functional programming and the status of the City of Edmonton rezoning application.
The PFAC members were also provided with interactive presentations on the following:
- Master Planning - This included background on: what a master plan is; guiding principles as it relates to the New Edmonton Hospital Project; and examples of master planning for health care facilities in other jurisdictions ( (e.g. Ontario, Australia, Singapore).
- Connect Care - An overview was provided on the AHS Connect Care health information system that is being rolled out across Alberta Health Services, as well as background about MyAHSConnect. The potential of health information technology in the future, was also discussed.

A large part of the meeting involved the Patient and Family Advisory Council providing feedback on their draft design objectives through a facilitated sessions led by members of the project consulting team.

This included information on the functional programming sessions in September, in which Council members were invited to participate. Information was also provided on the setting up of an Indigenous Advisory Council for the New Edmonton Hospital Project.
Council members were asked to respond to a series of questions related to what visitor experiences and amenities in the new hospital could look like. This included topics such as:
- Improving the parking experience
- Main entrance services
- Navigation within the hospital
- Patient & Family Resource Centre
This feedback will help inform the patient experience process, as well as form a basis of understanding of further flow work that the Council will undertake over the next several months.

Site Location
The new state-of-the-art hospital for south Edmonton will be built near the corner of Ellerslie Road and 127 Street SW. This 320-acre site was chosen because it can accommodate a health campus. Its proximity to Anthony Henday Drive and the Queen Elizabeth II highway makes it easily accessible. Current LRT planning includes expansion to the site before 2040.

Announcement of New Hospital in South Edmonton: Spring 2017
New Edmonton Hospital & Health Campus has finished this stageOn March 16, 2017, the Government of Alberta (GOA) approved a New Edmonton Hospital in the Budget 2017 Capital Plan with an initial commitment of $400 million over four years.
On May 30, 2017, GOA announced that the new hospital will have 350-500 new beds and be located in southwest Edmonton at the former Ellerslie Research Station, a government-owned site at 127 Street and Ellerslie Road. This location will satisfy the requirements of the hospital as part of a future health campus.

November 28, 2018: Heritage Valley Neighbourhood Area Structure Plan Public Engagement Session (Hosted by City of Edmonton)
New Edmonton Hospital & Health Campus has finished this stageThe Project Team attended an engagement session (hosted by the City of Edmonton) that provided an opportunity for Edmontonians to share their feedback on the healthy community vision for the new neighbourhood plan. Feedback received will be used to help inform the vision prior to finalizing the draft plan. The draft Neighbourhood Area Structure Plan is anticipated to be submitted for formal review in spring 2019.

Planning and Procurement: 2018 - 2022
New Edmonton Hospital & Health Campus is currently at this stage- Clinical service planning and site master planning is underway. Planners and subject matter experts are involved throughout this phase of the project. The AHS/Health Needs Assessment is being utilized to confirm project scope and site requirements.
- The City of Edmonton and Province are developing the Neighbourhood Area Structure Plan (NASP) that will include the site selected for the NEHP.
- Land
use planning and engineering studies to support the planned site development
are underway, in conjunction with the development of the NASP.
