AHS and the Government of Alberta envision Edmonton's new Hospital/Health Campus will be a model of modern health-care delivery; providing a comprehensive mix of health-care services, integrating acute care and emergency services with community-based care – all with a patient-centred approach.

This website has been designed to share information and to gather feedback from our many stakeholders to ensure that Edmonton's new Health Campus best meets the needs of patients, and their families.

  • Council Meeting - June 10, 2021

    The agenda for this meeting of the Patient and Family Advisory Council included an introduction to prototypical rooms – a topic that will be discussed further at future Council meetings, general project updates, and a facilitated session on the Draft Emergency Department Functional Program. During the facilitated session, Council members were asked to provide their feedback and experience on the Emergency Department patient journey.

    Council members also took a moment to acknowledge the survivors of the Residential School System and those who were lost, as well as National Indigenous Peoples Day 2021.

    At this Patient and Family Advisory Council meeting, a large portion of the agenda was allotted to Council members providing feedback on the functional programming sessions that were held in April 2021. Council members who attended the sessions were able to share their experiences and learnings with the rest of the Council.

    Council was also provided with an update on the New Edmonton Hospital PFAC’s Project Design objectives by members of the consultant team, as well as a general project update.

    The Patient and Family Advisory Council members were provided an update on the New Edmonton Hospital Project.

    Council members were also given an overview of the procurement process of the New Edmonton Hospital by members of the consultant team.

    During this meeting of the Patient and Family Advisory Council, Council members were provided an update on the New Edmonton Hospital Project. This update included information on the upcoming functional programming sessions in which the Council members were invited to participate.

    A significant part of the meeting involved Council members providing their feedback on the New Edmonton Hospital Master Planning process.

    At the first Patient and Family Advisory Council meeting of the New Year, Council took the opportunity to work on some housekeeping items such as:

    • topics for upcoming meetings
    • enhancing the Zoom experience

    Council members were also asked to provide their feedback on emerging hospital technology through a facilitated sessions led by members of the project consulting team.

    An update on the New Edmonton Hospital Project PFAC’s Design Objectives & Considerations, as well as a general project update was also provided to the Council.

    The Council started their meeting with an Indigenous Traditional Land Acknowledgement. An update on the New Edmonton Hospital Project was then provided, which included information on functional programming and the status of the City of Edmonton rezoning application.

    The PFAC members were also provided with interactive presentations on the following:

    • Master Planning - This included background on: what a master plan is; guiding principles as it relates to the New Edmonton Hospital Project; and examples of master planning for health care facilities in other jurisdictions ( (e.g. Ontario, Australia, Singapore).
    • Connect Care - An overview was provided on the AHS Connect Care health information system that is being rolled out across Alberta Health Services, as well as background about MyAHSConnect. The potential of health information technology in the future, was also discussed.

    The Patient and Family Advisory Council was provided with an update on the New Edmonton Hospital Project. This included information on:

    • Timing of the next round of the functional programming user group meetings
    • Sharing of lessons learned from the Calgary Cancer Centre Project, which is currently under construction
    • Technical planning work that is underway

    A large part of the meeting involved the Patient and Family Advisory Council providing feedback on their draft design objectives through a facilitated sessions led by members of the project consulting team.

    The Patient and Family Advisory Council was provided with an update on the New Edmonton Hospital Project. This included information on the functional programming sessions in September, in which Council members were invited to participate. Information was also provided on the setting up of an Indigenous Advisory Council for the New Edmonton Hospital Project.

    Council members were asked to respond to a series of questions related to what visitor experiences and amenities in the new hospital could look like. This included topics such as:

    • Improving the parking experience
    • Main entrance services
    • Navigation within the hospital
    • Patient & Family Resource Centre

    This feedback will help inform the patient experience process, as well as form a basis of understanding of further flow work that the Council will undertake over the next several months.

    The Patient and Family Advisory Council welcomed the nine new members who joined the Advisory Council over the summer. The meeting focused on providing new and continuing Council members with an overview of the project, on topics such as:

    • Project background & planning overview
    • Vision & guiding principles for the project
    • Project schedule
    • Site overview
    • Transformative care models
    • Stakeholder engagement.

    Council members were also provided with an orientation on the role of the Council and the role of Advisory Council members.
