March: A Prairie Spring

The weather may (or may not) be getting warmer over the month of March in Alberta, and this makes room for enjoying the great outdoors without freezing. Along with enjoying the last of winter recreation in Alberta, you can take part in a variety of festivals and celebrations, including St. Patrick’s Day.

Important Dates

Second Sunday in March - Daylight Saving Time (DST) begins. At 1:00 am on March 9th, clocks move ahead one hour. Daylight saving time is the practice of advancing clocks to make better use of the longer daylight available during summer so that darkness falls at a later clock time.

March 20th - First day of spring. The first day of spring is marked by the spring equinox, which falls on March 19, 20, or 21.
