Cancer Screening Virtual Education (CSVE) Project
Thank you for your invaluable input in the development of the new colonoscopy and colposcopy video series between between September 2022 and November 2023.
The two new patient education video series aim to provide patients with a comprehensive understanding of their upcoming procedure, why they have been referred, how to prepare, what to expect during and after, and potential results and/or next steps. In Alberta, there are 50 sites that perform adult colonoscopies and 28 sites that perform colposcopy - each with their own unique patient education processes, if offered. The colonoscopy patient education video series can be found at myhealth.alberta.ca/colonoscopy. The colposcopy video series can be found at myhealth.alberta.ca/colposcopy.
If you have any questions about the colonoscopy series, please email acrcsp@ahs.ca. For the colposcopy series, please email accsp@ahs.ca.
The AHS Cancer Screening Virtual Education Project is creating educational videos for patients who are referred for a Colonoscopy or Colposcopy. Our goal is to ensure that patients know what to expect from these procedures, and how they can prepare.
- Colonoscopy is a medical procedure where a tube goes into your bottom to look at your colon. The "colon" is also known as the large intestine or bowel.
- Colposcopy is a medical procedure where a specialist uses a high-powered microscope to look at your cervix following an abnormal pap test result. The "cervix" is the canal that connects the uterus to the vagina.
Have you received a colonoscopy or colposcopy in the past 5 years? Complete the short survey below to share your experience. The survey results will help us create and deliver free education videos for future patients.
The Cancer Screening Virtual Education Project is a partnership between the Alberta Colorectal Cancer Screening Program (ACRCSP), Digestive Health Strategic Clinical Network (DHSCN), and Alberta Cervical Cancer Screening Program (ACCSP).
