Bridgeland Riverside Continuing Care Centre

In April, 2017 the provincialgovernment announced approval of a new 200-bed continuing care centre and ambulatory care facility for Calgary. The project will be built on a 10-acre property in Bridgeland owned by AHS.

This site is intended to be another opportunity for the public to share their feedback on the Project. If you are interested in getting updates or sharing your feedback on the Project, please register on "Sign Up - Have your say", or email you queries to community.engagement@ahs.ca.

AHS and Alberta Infrastructure have been meeting with various stakeholders since early 2018. In November we held information sessions for the public where we shared design drawings, details on facility residents, landscaping, parking and construction plans. The November 29, 2018 presentation is available here.

Overall the tone and feedback we received was positive and supportive. Most participants felt that the continuing care centre is necessary and a welcome addition to the Bridgeland-Riverside community. There were concerns about the impacts of local traffic, parking and construction but most have been addressed.

Currently, we are in process of preparing the site for demolition and construction. In December we began taking out building material from the vacant Crossbow facility and that work will continue into February 2019.

Future activities on site will include:

  • A construction fence will be set up mid-to-late February 2019 in preparation for demolition.
  • Demolition is expected to occur in March 2019, including the building, landscaping, and existing parking lotto the West and Southwest of the Crossbow.
  • We expect the General Contractor to be awarded late summer 2019 with construction to begin soon after.
