Construction of the highly anticipated and needed Bridgeland Riverside Continuing Care Centre will be commencing in 2021.The project will address an urgent need for community based continuing and complex care in the Calgary area. It will also relieve pressure on Calgary hospitals and continuing care systems by reducing the demand for emergency departments, inpatient acute care services and residential continuing care placement.

In April, 2017 the provincial government announced approval of a new 200-bed continuing care centre and ambulatory care facility for Calgary. The project will be built on a 10-acre property in Bridgeland owned by AHS. Funding for the Bridgeland Riverside Continuing Care Centre was confirmed in the Fall 2019 budget.

Increased activity in and around the site of the Bridgeland Riverside Continuing Care Centre has begun. Perimeter fencing has been installed, site trailers have been set up, and preliminary site activity has started.

Throughout construction, the contractor will follow municipal bylaws concerning construction activity and industry best practices. To lessen the impact on the community as much as possible, measures will be taken to reduce construction noise, dust and construction traffic.

During all phases of construction, strict safety protocols will be in place to ensure the safety of construction workers and the community.

If you have any concerns or would like to know more, please e-mail us at community.engagement@ahs.ca.
