On June 21, Canada will celebrate National Indigenous Peoples Day. First celebrated in 1996, this is a day to recognize and celebrate the cultures and contributions of Indigenous Peoples from across Canada.
This year we embark on a Journey to Wellness, celebrating personal stories and practices rooted in the pursuit of mental well-being, fostering healing and family and community connections.

Sessions are open to the public, AHS staff, volunteers, and physicians.
In-person Medicine Wheel Teachings from 12 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. will be followed by Medicine Bag making from 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Location: South Health Campus, Auditorium Room A, 4448 Front Street SE, Cost: $40 (Includes all supplies and tools).
*Space is limited. Registration and payment due by June 14, 2024.

- The toll-free Indigenous Support Line can be reached by calling 1-844-944-4744. It’s staffed by Indigenous Health Link staff who answer callers’ questions and help them to access culturally appropriate care and navigate the healthcare system.
- To help recognize National Indigenous Peoples Month in June 2023, the South Zone of Alberta Health Services planted healing gardens at healthcare sites across the zone. The planting of sage, sweetgrass, saskatoon bushes and wild mint honour Blackfoot culture and are a form of reconciliACTION.
