Imagine a world where healthcare interactions aren’t just about symptoms and treatments, but about connections and understanding. That's the heart of the “What Matters to You?” (WMTY) campaign, which was adopted by AHS in 2017.
WMTY is about sparking meaningful conversations between patients, families and those who dedicate themselves to providing care to others.
When we ask, “What matters to you?” in healthcare, we shift the focus to the person in front of us – their goals, priorities, fears, hopes and so much more. By understanding what matters to patients and their families, we can tailor care to their unique needs and better engage them in their healthcare journey.
By asking what matters to patients, we begin to establish respect and understanding. This simple question also helps us gather insights in the values, needs, preferences and circumstances of patients. This helps build trust, allows us to tailor care, fosters a sense of ownership over one’s own health and ultimately improves health outcomes.
While June 6 is “What Matters to You?” Day each year, we celebrate WMTY all year long.
