What We Heard

From September to November 2022, we heard from nurses, educators and managers from across the province through a nursing engagement campaign. What we heard has left an impression that’s stronger than we expected.

Participants shared powerful and emotional stories about their workforce experiences. The past few years have been hard—participants talked about feeling tired, unseen and powerless, and their challenges continue. We admire the bravery that it took to share these experiences. We heard the strong passion for nursing and a desire to provide the best care for patients.

We heard the distress nurses feel when faced with barriers to delivering that care, but we also heard ideas and solutions that can help us hurdle those barriers. We heard different perspectives on common issues, highlighting the diversity of experience across the organization. There is no single solution—we need creative and flexible strategies that can weave to the changing needs of our workforce.

Thank you for showing up and contributing, whether it was through the survey, a session, email or sharing the opportunity with a colleague who spoke on your behalf. It is already making a difference in the conversations we are having today and as we plan for the future. What we heard has impacted each facilitator, notetaker and coordinator that was involved in this process.

We have shared with senior leaders in the organization and will continue to share with those who have role in supporting our nurses. It is our commitment to continue to elevate the voices of our nurses and centre future direction on what is meaningful to them.
