Janine SakatchExecutive Director, Community Engagement & External Relations
Fun Fact
Janine began her career in journalism working at a daily newspaper in southern Alberta. For seven years, Janine held the Education beat, earning the Alberta Teacher’s Association Education Newswriting Award four consecutive times. She also earned National Thomson News Award for a series on bullying in schools. Janine produced a seven-part series after accompanying a group of students to Romania for a volunteer mission at orphanages, a children’s HIV hospice, and a hospital.

Nicole MerrifieldDirector, Community Engagement & External Relations
Starting her career in journalism and communications, Nicole has been honing her engagement skills since joining AHS.
Fun Fact
Nicole is a mother of two who spends countless hours cheering her daughters from the bleachers. She was bit by the travel bug early, as her family took a road trip to Guatemala when she was seven; she now shares her passion for adventure and the outdoors with her husband and kids.
Why do you love the work you do?
"I am passionate about working with my colleagues to find new techniques to engage Albertans, beyond surveys and the dreaded "town hall"!

Fun Fact
I was once on an advertising flyer for a pizza chain in Saskatchewan that was distributed to households across the province for over a year. I also once dressed as the bird ‘Rockin’ Robin’ for a dance competition in Saskatoon and my team won the city-wide event.
Why do you love the work you do?
"After working many years with Advisory Councils, it's been most rewarding to watch their evolution. Starting out as AHS community touchpoints, they've found a voice in healthcare conversations and are sought out for their input. It's been great to witness their progression"

Melony HatelyAdvisor, Community Engagement, Advisory Council Relations
Melony works with the Wood Buffalo, Tamarack and Lakeland Communities HACs in the North Zone.
Fun Fact
Melony's claim to fame is that she has never had a Big Mac! Who even wants an extra layer of bun? Not Melony, that’s ridiculous.
Why do you love the work you do?
'I love working with Council members and helping facilitate better access to health care for all our rural and remote communities. The work the Councils do is so important because every Albertan should know they can have a voice in their health care system.'

Deanna DamentAdvisor, Community Engagement, Advisory Council Relations
Deanna works with True North, Peace and Lesser Slave Lake HACs in the North Zone.
Fun Fact
Deanna loves the outdoors and takes full advantage of the river valley year-round, whether running, biking, walking, hiking or skiing.
Passionate about travel, a few highlights for Deanna include visiting France, Italy, Greece, Tanzania, Thailand and the Galapagos Islands. While living and working in Australia on a one-year Visa, Deanna spectated at the Olympics in Sydney.

Maya works with the Greater Edmonton, David Thompson and Yellowhead East HACs in the Edmonton and Central Zones.

Christine OsundeSenior Advisor, Community Engagement, Advisory Council Relations
Christine works with the Prairie Mountain, Palliser Triangle and Oldman River HACs in the Calgary and South Zones.
Fun Fact
For more than a decade Christine worked in television as an Entertainment anchor/reporter and news writer/morning show producer. She attended movie premiers in Los Angeles to interview several Hollywood celebrities, including Ben Affleck, Dave Chapelle and one of her favourite musical groups, Boyz to Men.
These days Christine shares her love of the arts with her three teenage sons, who she has encouraged to pursue everything from dance to theatre, literature, writing and music.
Why do you love the work you do?
"I enjoy talking to our Advisory Council members about healthcare and supporting them as they strive to improve community healthcare through their role."
