Mentorship Matters

Mentorship (even if at times that's not what I may have called it) has been responsible for every opportunity I've had in health care. I've had the great fortune at every step of my career of being positively influenced by brilliant leaders - from expert clinicians when I was a transitioning new graduate nurse, to a clinical nurse educator after I had gained some experience and was keen to develop new skills to a series of formal leaders who have taught me (and continue to teach me) about healthcare improvement, system leadership, professional governance and health services research. I'm always committed to 'pay it forward' every chance I get when nurses have questions or are looking for opportunities, and I continue to follow some good advice and always try to "say yes to new challenges, and be open to learning from new people, from their experiences and wisdom, you'll be amazed at what can happen".
